I know a few things about cats and one of them are = unpredictable mood and behavior ;P

Unpredictable indeed!
Smokey's about 15 years old and I've had him for almost 4 years now. Still it amazes me how his routines keep changing. He's had a period where, at night, he would only sleep on the floor, in a corner of my bedroom. Then he would sleep on the bed for almost a year, before turning back to sleeping on the floor again? Then it was back to the bed, but this time on top of the pillow next to me, but a few months later the pillow wasn't good enough anymore and he would sleep on the foot end of the bed lol
Currently he's mostly sleeping in a room I'm not in and when he does come to the room I'm in it's mostly to get "in the way". Before he'd mostly keep a distance lol
Still he's been the most good natured cat I've ever encountered. My grandparents once had a cat who kept attacking people lol
Cats are extraordinary creatures...

Apparently this news dates back a couple of months, but I only read about this on a news site today: Due to a fault in the firmware certain Hewlett Packard SSD drive models suffer from drive failure after 32.768 hours of operation, so should you own any it'd be best to update the firmware. A list of the affected models can be found here: Link.

Two days ago my PC started to act a little strange. I was playing AC Odyssey (as always lol) and gameplay suddenly wasn't smooth at all. I've had frame rates dropping to 10-20 fps and the fans making more noise than usual. I was also getting an awful lot of screen tearing in game and also when simply scrolling down websites.
I ran a hardware monitoring program to check the temperatures while playing ACO. Those all seemed fine: CPU core temperatures averaged about 60°C. GPU temperature: 65°C max. Doesn't seem overly concerning to me. Still I wonder if my GPU is starting to fail on me...
I tried the standard IT solution: rebooting. Didn't encounter the not smooth gameplay and frame rates drop again, but the screen tearing was still there.
After doing a bit of browsing on the web I reinstalled the latest GPU driver (clean install). There's a lot less screen tearing, but it's not gone completely.
Maybe I could try and reinstall an earlier version of the driver, but the latest one was working fine up until a few days ago? Does anyone have any other suggestions I could try?

Need to take my mind of things badly...
If you were to build or buy a new PC and if money's no object. What kind of PC would you build or buy? Which components would your new PC have?
For me: CPU: Intel i9-10900K, 3,7 GHz (5,3 GHz Turbo boost) socket 1200 processor Mainboard: Asus ROG Strix Z490-E Gaming Case: I’d probably stick with my good old Corsair Obsidian 450D: A window case, but not too fancy. GPU: NVIDIA RTX 3090 (ideally one of the Asus variants) RAM: Possibly Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro : 64GB (4x16 GB) DDR4 3200 MHz) PSU: Corsair RM850x 80+ Gold (my current power supply. No complaints about it, so why change?) Cooler: Corsair Hydro Series H115i PRO RGB Storage: My current hard drives I guess: 2 Samsung SSD's and 2 Western Digital hard drives.
Bottom line: I love Asus and Corsair. So far I don't think I've had any issues with either of them, so stickig with them feels right.

Hmmm... so apparently there's an Avengers collector's edition of an Intel i9-10900K CPU out there. How come the collector's edition is 40 euros cheaper than the regular one?

I wouldn't touch Intel at the moment especially. AMD's Zen 3 will be much better overall and they are coming out really soon. Intel lacks PCI-E 4 support which limits NVME SSD speeds quite a bit. I'm personally aiming for 12 core Zen 3, 32GB of 3600 MHz (CL16-16-16-36) and 20 GB RTX 3080 (Asus - they got their design right this time) when they come out. Now the availability for NVIDIA Ampere cards is so horrible that one might just as well wait for those and what AMD has to offer.
Cooling wise I'd go with air: Scythe Mugen 5 Rev.B. with either my current Noctua fan or Noctua NF-A12x25 PWM. I'd reuse my 2TB SSD, 3TB HDD and Corsair AX760. Then I'd finally put my Samsung 830 to rest and replace it with 512GB NVME SSD. I'll probably end up getting a new case too. Not sure what though. Currently I have Fractal Design Define R4 (white).

No idea about that, but I'd probably still stick with Intel. Why change something if you haven't had any problems with it before? Now if you had your 3 month old car burn down spontaneously I'm pretty sure you'd never buy another one of the same brand.
Wonder if a layman/laywoman/layperson (whatever is politically correct *sigh*) like me would even notice the difference?
Been watching a few of Carey Holzman's PC building video's again lately. When it comes to AMD or Intel he pretty much says there's really no wrong choice to make. It's fun to watch these videos and I have to admit it would be fun building a new PC. With the cat gone I've got more money to spare I guess. And I'm not sure if I'm ready or even want to adopt a new cat at this point.
Btw saw the prices today for Asus' 30XX RTX cards. Damn! €839 for the 10 GB RTX 3080 ROG STRIX version €859 for the 10 GB RTX 3080 ROG STRIX OC version
€1699 for the 24 GB RTX 3090 ROG STRIX version €1749 for the 24 GB RTX 3090 ROG STRIX OC version
Makes you wonder how much that 20 GB RTX 3080's going to cost. €1499 for the non OC version? If I was going to spend that much money on a GPU then I might as well buy the 3090 OC version lol

Biggest problem with Intels current desktop CPUs is the outdated manufacturing process which makes them sip quite a bit of power -> more heat -> more noise.
I'd be getting ASUS TUF variant (739,90 € and 759,90 € for OC variant here) instead of Strix. There's no point in going with Strix unless one plans to overlock. TUF had already great cooling with impressive acoustic performance. For RTX 3090 TUF the prices are 1589,90 € and 1619,90 € (OC). RTX 3080 20GB price depends on whether or not it's just RTX 3080 with double the VRAM. If it's just double the VRAM the price likely around 1000 € +-100€.

Well, the only reason to go for STRIX for me would be aesthetics I suppose. The OC version for me would be overkill though.

Then again there are cheaper versions of these cards by MSI or GIGABYTE. Have no experience with either of them. Might be tempted by MSI, but I think that up until now I like Asus too much heh.

This made me laugh... Henry Cavill after finding out about NVIDIA's RTX3000 series:
And going back to that Avenger's collector's edition of the 10900K. Carey Holzman doesn't seem to be a fan of it. Why spend more money on that version if you're going to end up tossing the box away anyway?
So I still don't get why that collector's edition is €40 cheaper here than the regular edition. Even though it's the exact same CPU.

Heh looking at cases... Seems that pretty much all the newer cases no longer have space for an optical drive or card reader. Now, call me old-fashioned... I suppose I can sort of live without the optical drive. But I use the card reader a lot... Definitely going to hang on to the Obsidian 450D then.

So far the best has been ASUS TUF. No reviews of Strix yet but I can't possibly imagine it being worse. I had Gigabyte GTX 780 GHz Edition briefly... It was one of the worst cards ever. ASUS GTX 780 was much, much better card. Cooling was much better and on top of that it didn't squeal like a piglet that's about to die. The coil whine was insane. After that I did have Gigabyte GTX 970. It wasn't as bad but not great. I had to mod the bios so that I could lower the fan speed (it lacked passive mode). I also returned MSI GTX 970 because it had annoying coil whine (swapped it to Gigabyte GTX 970).

I bought USB-C Blu-Ray player/writer some time ago just so that I can leave the DVD drive out. The only use case for me is to rip audio CD to FLAC and occasionally backup blu-ray (I've backed up one series and one live concert blu-ray - mmm... pcm audio track). I have also good USB3.0 SD cards reader.
Henry Cavill should have enough €€€ to not feel sorry about that.
