Considering some of the comments people are making I do believe it.
Someone called for stores like toystores and bookstores to close, because we don't really need them. Grocery stores are allowed to remain open though. Several businesses are already being hit hard by all this, so just let's deal the final deathblow to the physical stores that are still left, because a lot of them already have a hard time competing with online stores.
I visit the grocery store 3 or 4 times a week. Usually when I'm working late shifts I like to get a dinner salad or microwave dinner to take with me to work.

What an idiotic idea to close stores O_O !!! It will not help anyway. In the past I did work normally and was going to grocery every day Since I work from home it is easier and cheaper to plan ahead.

Indeed... Now 2 of my colleagues were running around coughing today... Time to close the lab! Sometimes I wish I could work from home, but sadly that's not an option in my line of work. I suppose I also wouldn't get any done when the cat keeps sitting in front of my screen 😃
EDIT: People have now apparently resolved to stealing face masks from hospitals. Apparently this also happened in other countries O_o And another hospital has closed down their Intensive Care Unit because one of their patients was infected.
Meanwhile, people who are concerned because they or their children are showing flu like symptoms aren't taken seriously when they call their doctor. How serious is this thing then really?

WOW - another idiocy to stealing now masks. Masks does not even help against infection - all experts saying this. So wth - do this people hord it and sell it over eBay for profit or what ?
I think the Virus can be deadly, but flu can be deadly, too. In a normal case you just have symptoms of a normal cold/flu and you get over it without a problem. Serious is they know to less about the Virus itself yet.

Wouldn't surprise me. Apparently if you'd have stocked up on anti-bacterial hand gels before you could now make a lot of profit selling them. Well, I suppose this explains the high number of infected people in Iran O_o Link

eeeek - well yes. We can't understand other cultures- do we ?
We have here nearby now 9 sick people, all with mild symptoms. They are not in a clinic, but in quarantine at home. All did get the virus in Italy. In Germany are 200+ known infected. Its still not a very high number - and I hope it stays that way.

Hah! Nowadays I don't even understand the Dutch culture anymore.
I read that there's a decline in Corona cases in China, so that's good news I suppose. Btw I also wonder how many people are out there who are infected with the people, but have no clue because they hardly have any symptoms.

In germany it is spreading rather quick I fear and seems the Numbers in China are not trustworthy either.
And I agree absolutely that the mosty mild form of the virus makes it very difficult to discover, which I think is good but also a curse, cause it gets out of hand much quicker this way.

It's spreading, but is it spreading at a faster rate than seasonal influenza? Honestly, I have strong doubts. I still feel that the media coverage and the actions and even lack of actions to prevent this is blowing all of this totally out of proportion. Actions: quarantaining people (essentially taking away their freedom)/shutting down hospitals (preventing others from getting the help they need) and businesses. Lack of actions: Doctors ignoring people who call in with symptoms matching the Corona virus. If it was all so serious shouldn't those people at least be tested? The virus is really the last thing I'm worried about. Excerpt from an article I read: "Until recently, the World Health Organization (WHO) estimated the annual mortality burden of influenza to be 250 000 to 500 000 all-cause deaths globally; however, a 2017 study indicated a substantially higher mortality burden, at 290 000-650 000 influenza-associated deaths from respiratory causes alone, and a 2019 study estimated 99 000-200 000 deaths from lower respiratory tract infections directly caused by influenza. Here we revisit global and regional estimates of influenza mortality burden and explore mortality trends over time and geography." Full article here. So, if I understand correctly: up until 2017 the WHO estimated that 250.000 to 500.000 people died from all kinds of symptoms related to seasonal influenza. When a later study indicated that an even higher number of people died from respiratory causes caused by the influenza alone... Is there really a reason to panic about all this yet?

I think not - if I read that in Australia people already fight over a role of toilet paper ... ... Human insanity For me it is still sort of a new influenca type - the article is exactly what I think about. The Problem is - no one knows a lot about this Virus. Can it slumber after first infection break out new again ? Is it possible that the thing mutates ? Who was the person/animal ZERO ? Many many questions are open. And as we know - unknown things spread panic and fear.

the number of cases is going up fast now - 530+ in Germany. Its a bit strange to read that only 20 % are worried about, though. Who is stealing then germicide in our doctor's practice ( truth - he told us yesterday as my hubby did need a new recipe ) Or hoarding all the Spaghetti - Tomatosauce, Pizza, Toiletpaper and such stuff ? I suppose the people just saying they aren't worried and behind the scene there is sort of a panick about.

Well, seeing as a lot of things like face masks and hand sanitizer gels are being offered for absurd prizes at online marketplaces etc. it doesn't take much guessing to why they get stolen.Although I read about an Australian family accidentally ordering 48 boxes of toilet paper instead of 48 rolls. They now have enough toilet paper for the next 12 years
Also we now have someone who died from the consequences of the virus. An 86-year-old man. Odd detail: the patient's son-in-law is a colleague of the son of a colleague of mine...

mmh - you are probably right, but you can't sell an already opened hand sanitizer ... SO <.< just head shaking in disbelieve.
When the virus creeps slowly nearer - like in your case - don't know, its maybe a tad frightening.

Yeah, but can you really tell if a bottle of hand sanatizer was already opened? As far as I know those bottles aren't sealed?
I don't know. I still don't find it any more frightening than seasonal flu. To me it seems like another thing we HAVE to be afraid of. Like the whole climate change crap. Heh! I could start a whole new topic about that if interested.

Well - it was half way used - So yes, for sure it was used. But they had 4 in some rooms and 3 are stolen. Yeah - its the same thinking here. I'm not frightened at all. But I am really concerned about the impact on the world economy if this thing just grows every day. This morning we had near 700 infected people now - I mean its still nothing if you set it in relation to the whole german population with around 82 Mill+ as far as I know. And just feel free to start a topic about the climate change !
