I ordered the Litter-Robot 3, which arrived last week Since I cleaned my kittens' litter boxes the week before I waited a bit before installing it though. So I installed the Litter-Robot yesterday. The advice was to leave the Litter-Robot turned off, until the cat(s) gets used to it, but both of my kittens were already using it, while I was still in the process of installing it and filling it with litter So after that I just turned the thing on and see how the kittens would react to that. No issues at all. Another advice was to leave the old litter box on the side, but since the kittens seemed to have no issue using the Litter-Robot I didn't bother to place one of the old litter boxes back.
Seems to be going well so far. Up until now I've had to scoop both old litter boxes 3-4 times a day (sometimes even 5 times). I've not done any scooping since I turned on the Litter-Robot
It wasn't cheap, but well worth the money if it keeps up like this

Another update regarding the kittens. Gave another update to the cattery owner where I got them from the other day. Told her I'd been letting them outside in the backyard a number of times now, while being heavily supervised (of course). I also shared some pictures of the kittens outside as well, and her reply was that my backyard looks to be "cat proof". The fencing looks high enough and, provided there are no open spaces, it would be very unlikely that the cats will be able to escape. Smokey never tried to climb up the fencing either and he only managed to get outside my backyard by crawling underneath the gate. Made a temporary fix for that by attaching a board to the bottom of the gate, so that the kittens won't be able to crawl underneath it. I think we're good to go At this point I can actually let them go outside in the backyard, unsupervised. Do some chores in the house. They're always there when I check up on them. And if one or both are missing they're always somewhere in the house. It's really nice that they're able to go outside now and that the cattery owner approves of it. It's made their world a little bit larger and they get some fresh air too. Very relaxing! Btw they got rid of the face mask obligation as of today (except for public transport, train stations, airports). Such a relief to be able to go to the grocery store again without having to wear one.

Awww... great news. And its good that they have a bit more space and fresh air.
The Mask obligation will fall here probably soon, too But so far it still stands.

Took the cats to the vet the other week for a health check and vaccination. Getting the cats in their pet carriers wasn't much of an issue. They walked in on their own volition But then the fun started. Although while carrying them to my car Shep got a little distressed and couldn't still. I haven't heard him peep/meow this hard before. The short drive to the vet went fine and even while waiting for their appointment they were quiet. But once it was their turn as soon as Shona got taken out of the pet carrier Shep started peeping/meowing again. Poor thing. In any case. Both cats were fine. Shona now weighs 4.4 kg And Shep a whopping 5.7 kg. Next venture is a trip to a groomer. Gonna be fun

Well, the cats have really turned into evil little terrorist bastards This is what I found when I came home after a late shift a few weeks back: So they managed to detach the curtain rod from the curtain. The bracket that was securing the curtain rod was nowhere in sight. I figured they’d probably kicked that piece around, so I looked under all of the furniture in the living room too. But to no avail… A couple of days later I come home to this: And look at the little culprits trying to act casually...

Cat's love to do this. As I had two once they loved to mess up the toilet paper. So one day I had enough of this and did put two empty cans on it. After work I came home and the cans did lay on the ground .... *snickers* They never ever tried to put a claw on the toilet paper. If they get a shock moment and you aren't around they wont associate it with you, which is good

Oh I've across a few sheets of toilet paper here and there as well But they haven't destroyed whole roles of toilet paper yet This would have been unthinkable during toilet paper hoarding times! 🙄
They are very attracted to cables though. Although it's a bit less than it was before. Thankfully I haven't had to replace any cables yet.
Although one of the cats on occasion keeps unplugging the coaxial cable leading to my modem. Nowadays it's the first thing to check if I loose my Internet connection lol
They also keep messing up the bath mat in the bathroom. Not sure what to do about that other than keeping the door closed.

Finally made an appointment for Shep at a pet groomer for the end of the month. If things go well I'll make an appointment for Shona there as well. Shep seems to be more prone to tangles and matting. Shona doesn't seem to have many issues. Other than having a lot of hair lol
I'm curious to see how it goes.

So I took Shep to the pet groomer today. Thankfully, I again had no issues getting him in the pet carrier. He basically got about half way in and then I just had to give him a little push. Phew! Felt a bit mean though, because it was about 10 mins before we had to leave. At some point he was trying to get out of the carrier too: clawing at the gate. After a few minutes he gave up. There was a lot of meowing during the trip. But once we arrived he was surprisingly quiet. Groomer did a good job and managed to remove quite a bit of hair. Shep was surprisingly cooperative too. Though he did try to get away a couple of times But by the time it was time to leave there was a bit of a struggle to get him back inside the pet carrier lol On the way back home he was rather quiet, so I decided to drop by the grocery store to pick up a few things. If he hadn’t been quiet or seemed stressed I’d have dropped him off at home first. When I opened the carrier when I got home he first went upstairs, but he soon reappeared and let me pet him again, so I guess there’s not too much trauma. The pet groomer even gave him a treat, but by the time I got home he still hadn’t eaten it. Shep’s still not much of a fan of cat treats heh. Shona did find the cat treat in the carrier in no time lol Made an appointment for Shona about 4 weeks from now. The pet groomer said that next time it might be wise to make an appointment for both of them at the same time as it would be cheaper, but that means that they both have to spend more time in the carrier. I’ll have to think about it. She also said it’d be okay if I took Shep along as well when I bring in Shona. Just for a minor combing. I’m guessing it’s because she charges per 30 mins and I don't think Shona will need 30 mins of grooming. It is tempting.

Just the other day I came across this interesting and fun YouTube channel: BilliSpeaks Billi is a 13 year old cat who is learning to communicate with the help of buttons. Each button has a symbol on it representing, for example, a person, action, mood or place and when the button is pressed you can hear the word associated with the button. So for instance if Billi wants to be petted she can press the buttons that represent “want” and “pets”. Or just “pets” if she’s feeling lazy Here's a short video of Billi and her owner:
More clips can be found on BilliSpeaks' YouTube channel.

Yeah, it is pretty amazing. It is soooo tempting to buy some of these buttons and give it a go with my cats, but they are recalcitrant little bastards heh. The only time it seems they'll actually listen is when I mention the word "food". Other than that they pretty much do as they please It'd be cool though. I also feel it would be easier to teach with just one cat in your household, since it may be easier to form a bond then.
I guess Smokey might have been a good learner, because he seemed to be a better listener.
If I told him to come with me upstairs he would usually follow, or if I told him to jump on my lap he would. Shep and Shona generally don't bother listening, unless they are really in the mood or if I'm really telling them off because of something they're not allowed to. Other than that they definitely make up their own mind lol
