My twin apparently has a sore throat now. If he starts coughing (without runny nose) and gets a fever then I guess it could be the real thing...

Well, let's hope it isn't or if it is then I hope it stays mild.
And I hope your healthcare system is handling things better over there.

I hope that for you both Tup and GroundSquirrelWe have here now around 14.500 known cases. Since especially young people still not taking this seriously its probably only a matter of time for the curfew. Italy is pretty badly affacted, with or without the total lockdown - they have already more people died from Corona then in China.

400 confirmed cases here (pretty solid ~40 cases/day increase at the moment). Five are in intensive care which isn't that much and hopefully stays that way. Hard to see what happens next but I'm rather positive that Italy situation isn't going to happen here. I'm quite surprised at how high the death rate is.
Believe or not put here the elderly people are actually the bad guys. Technically they are "ordered" to self quarantine themselves and avoid contact. They seem to happily go to cafes and so on.
Went to shop (Lidl) again today and other than less cars I think there were more people outside than usual. Which probably makes sense since most are working remotely. I don't live in central Helsinki so things aren't very obvious here. Large shopping centres are probably rather desolate at the moment.

From what I hear there are both young people and older people not taking this seriously. Read today about a homeless guy setting up a little tent somewhere, because no one at the shelter was taking the 1.5 m distance rule seriously. And my parents told me there are still people at the grocery store who are ignoring it. Standing around, chatting face to face. Oh well, at least this "herd immunity" state they were talking about a few days ago will be reached a lot sooner.

You know, I'm getting rather tired of there hardly being any other news than this virus. This all is like a really crappy episode of Black Mirror. An elderly guy at the apartment where I used to live once said: "Humor is the sauce of life." So here's this little thing someone on FB shared:

So the next comment is not really something serious - but it did surprise me nonetheless
Year 1820 = bubonic plague Year 1920 = spanish Flu Year 2020 = Corona
What an coincidence ! Maybe Mother Nature itself spreads all 100 years a huge disease to help herself

Nice lists, lol.
They actually did open a new shopping mall yesterday here. Obviously people had to go get those free plastic buckets or what ever.

Tup: Surely you can't miss out on any of these things really! Still I can't help feeling that there's something so off with all that is happening...

Surreal - all of it. In Germany the cases going straight up - cause people wont listen. My native town, 10 km away from where I live, is shutting down now nearly all - cause the last couple of days Students and younger people did making parties in parcs. We have now 19.700+ and I'm sure it will not stay this way. However - continue the list ! Cure me - ElisaWonderful Life - HurtsFever - Peggy Lee

Cases will definitely keep going up for a while. Still I am not convinced it is worse than the seasonal flu.
Looking at the numbers I think Germany is still doing well. Sure, there are a lot of confirmed cases. Still the number of people who died is rather low.
The World Health Organization claims that about 3.8% of the people will die from this virus.
Strange enough they also claim that 0.1% of the people die from seasonal influenza. But for this they also take into account the number of estimated cases, while for the Corona virus they only take the number of confirmed cases into account. That doesn't seem fair.

No offence to WHO, but if they think that ~4% of whole population die because of this they are nuts. Infected maybe and only if happens to target surprisingly large number of elderly people who already have one leg in the grave. Those would have likely died from influenza. So far normal influenza has been much more deathly here. There are 450 officially confirmed cases here at the moment, zero deaths. It's also good to keep in mind that those who are infected obviously are getting better. At the moment it all feels like massive overreaction. Yet, it's quite lethal in some countries. Without knowing the age data it's hard to make conclusions. Here the infected haven't been that old. Still, Italy's situation is weird. I guess we'll see in a week how things go here. Government said that they could restrict movement from and to Uusimaa if things get works here in Helsinki (and Vantaa & Espoo area).

I agree with you here Tup The influenza here is still four times higher as the Corona cases. But the difference is - you can do something about influenza - like yearly vaccine etc. They seem still very helpless against Covid-19. It is not much explored, what it does, if he mutates and if - how. Humanity do always overreact if things unknown. Today I read that now the number of younger people in the hospitals increases - which was as rather rare case scenario last week.
